The school of Agricultural Sciences is comprised of five Departments. These are
- Animal Science Department
- Crop Scienced Department
- Soil Science Department
- Agricultural Economics Department
- Food Science and Technology Department.
The Department of Crop Science developed a Master of Science Programme in Plant Genetic Resources Management in 1996. This was Msc. programme was planned to be a Regional Programme to serve the SADC region in matters of plant Genetic Resources. So far two Master of Science students have graduated from this programme. This programme shows that the School of Agricultural Sciences has been involved in issues of Biodiversity conservation for some time now. In fact the aspect of biodiversity conservation and management is part of the Crop science Department's Crop Improvement and Biotechnology courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the school.
The animal Science Department has also been carrying out research studies on characterisng indeginous chickens with a view to generating information on the productivity of this readily avialable potential source of protein for human dietary needs. This research is also in the broad area of biodiversity.
